Reading Booth Set in Yuelu Academy on World Reading Day

A “Reading Booth” campaign, initiated by the CCTV’s the Reader program, was launched in Yuelu Academy on April 23, the World Reading Day.  As the first reading booth in Changsha, it attracted crowds of teachers and students as well as citizens fond of reading.

Dean of Yuelu Academy Prof. Xiao Yongming and forty students recited the “Rules of Yuelu Academy” on the launching ceremony, to inspire students to learn from traditional academy education, and strive to be outstanding persons with profound cultural and ideological quality.

The chorus of Hunan University chanted the university anthem. Hunan University, a millennium institution of higher education, has made remarkable contributions to the inheritance of traditional academy education and the development of modern education.

Teachers and students from School of Journalism and Communication & Film and Television Arts recited Chairman Mao Zedong’s poem Changsha—To the Tune of Qun Yuan Chun.

A reading booth was set on the site. This three-meter-high and 6 to 7-sq.m booth was equipped with professional voice recorders and camera. It is available to one or two readers at a time.

Many citizens participated in this campaign. They read a passage or a short story to the recorder. The program organizer will select the most moving audio videos to show on TV.

This “Reading Booth” campaign was launched in seven universities across China that day, namely, Tsinghua University in Beijing, Hunan University in Changsha, University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Sichuan University in Chengdu.

Changsha’s reading booth is open to citizens from 9:30 am to 17:30 pm every day, lasting from April 23 to May 14. The booth will be set in Yuelu Academy, Central South University, the Orange Isle Scenic Area, and Changsha Library in succession.

During its stay in Yuelu Academy (April 23 to April 28), citizens may make a participation reservation in advance via following the official WeChat account: hudayuelu, or at the entrance of the academy.
