HNU, EcoMotors to Join Hands in OPOC Technology Development

Hunan University signed a cooperation agreement with EcoMotors on the afternoon of March 13. According to the agreement, a joint development center will be established in Changsha for the further adaptive development of OPOC® technology in Chinese market. The leaders present at the signing ceremony include: Tang Yayang, Deputy Party Secretary of the CPC Hunan University Committee, Amit Soman, President of EcoMotors, Lei Fengyu, Deputy Director at the Dept. of Cultural and Educational Experts of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Wang Guishu, Director of the Hunan Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.

Tang Yayang said, it is the first time for College of Mechanical Vehicle Engineering of Hunan University to establish substantial cooperation with American enterprises, and the joint development center in Changsha is EcoMotors’s first center in China. He believed that all these efforts will give a new momentum to the mutual development.
Amit Soman, President and Chief Operating Officer of EcoMotors introduced the features, advantages and development prospects of OPOC® technology and expressed expectations for more cooperation with the university. He said, it is the first overseas R & D center of EcoMotors, and the cooperation is an important step forward in the commercialization of high-end technology, which reflects the importance of Chinese markets in EcoMotors’ global strategy. Hunan University boasts advanced engine test facilities and is an ideal partner of EcoMotors. “We will improve our products in this R& D center to meet the specific demands of Chinese markets and support other partners in China”, he added.
It was also revealed that as part of cooperation, EcoMotors will provide scholarships for graduates of Hunan University to support their researches in OPOC technology, and outstanding students will get an opportunity to work in EcoMotors.
EcoMotors was founded at the beginning of 2008, headquartered in the Allen Park in Michigan. It focuses on developing engines of high efficiency, especially unique opposed-piston engine opposed cylinder (OPOC®) engine that can apply to any devices powered by traditional gasoline or diesel such as cars and ships. Its main investors include Khosla Ventures, Bill Gates and Braemar Energy Ventures.
