The Asian Pacific Academy of Materials (APAM) held its biennial conference at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) on June 27, 2019.
Thirty-two academicians and 12 associate academicians were added at the conference, including 16 academicians and 4 associate academicians from the Chinese Mainland, and 5 academicians and one associate academician from Taiwan.
Prof. Chen Jianghua from HNU were selected as APAM academician.
Prof. Chen is dean and also doctoral supervisor of HNU College of Materials Science and Engineering. He is a distinguished professor of the “Yangtze River Scholar” program, one of the first batch of persons-in-charge of the “Huang Danian-modeled Teachers” program, and member of the Materials Science Division of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education. He graduated from Central South University in physics of metals in 1983, and gained his master’s degree from the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in 1986, and doctorate fromthe Electron Microscopy Lab of the University of Antwerp in 1997. He joined HNU in 2006, and has been engaged in research on micro-structure representation of materials, and theoretical and methodological research on advanced electron microscopy technology. He is now executive council member of the Chinese Materials Research Society (CMRS), vice chairman of the China Instrument and Control Society (CIS), chairman of the Hunan Society for Precision Instrument Checkout (HSPIC), and director of the HSPIC Electron Microscope Commission. He is also acentral committee member of the Jiu San Society, and standing committee member of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee.
The other added APAM academicians include: Kostya Novoselov, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010; and, Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) members Zhou Yu, Li Yanrong, Huang Xiaowei, Zhou Ji, Zhang Lianmeng, Jian Xigao, Wang Yingjun, Jiang Desheng, Wu Yicheng, and Xue Qunji.
