Professor Zeng Guangming from College of Environmental Science & Engineering, Hunan University donated 1 million yuan, prize of 2009 "Cheung Kong Scholars Achievement Award" to establish "Cheung Kong Environment Award" foundation in a bid to provide financial aid to excellent poverty-stricken students of Hunan University.
On Nov. 8, Prof. Zeng signed an official agreement to set up the foundation in the university. Since the establishment of "Cheung Kong Scholars Achievement Award" in 1998, only 26 illustrious Chinese scientists have won this glory, with vacancies for single award occasionally.
Since his graduation from Wuhan University with a doctor's degree in 1988, Mr. Zeng has devoted himself to teaching and researching at Hunan University in the fields of environmental systems engineering, urban house refuse recycling and techniques & methods of clean production.
In 2004, he was invited as a specially-appointed professor of Cheung Kong Scholars by the Ministry of Education and gained subsidy from the Foundation of National Natural Science Foundation of China for Outstanding Scholarship, awarding the "First Native Cheung Kong Scholar" of Hunan.
