Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter Visits Hunan University

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter paid a visit to Hunan University on Sept. 9,2010 and addressed in the auditorium. With a humorous beginning, Mr. Carter's speech received thunderous applause from nearly a thousand of teachers and students from the university .

Jimmy Carter made an inspiring speech covering topics including Sino-US relations and its progress, and Sino-US cultural communication. During the interaction period, Mr. Carter answered such questions raised by the students and teachers as "How will Sino-US relations develop?" and "How will China and the United States work together to enhance their soft power?" He also made an introduction to the Carter Center' projects.

Carter said, "we saw a trend in the past 30 years, and I believe this trend will go on in the future. As the development of China's economy, China will exert more and more profound influence on the world."

"The contacts between China and the U.S. will get more and more closer, and China-US relations in the future will face both opportunities and challenges." he added.

Carter and his delegation also visited the Yuelu Academy. Hunan University and the Carter Center signed the Memorandum of Cooperation Between Hunan University and the U.S. Carter Center.
