The 2024RoboCup concluded in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, on July 22. The BigHeroX team sent by the Robot Workshop of the HNU Modern Engineering Training Center shone brightly at the competition, winning a first place and a runner-up position in the games of the middle size league.
RoboCup is the premier championship for robotic. Founded in 1997, it has become the highest-level robotics competition with the greatest influence and widest participation in the robotics field around the world. It aims to provide an iconic and challenging research direction for the development of AI and intelligent robotics disciplines through robot soccer matches, and create a standardized environment for dynamic confrontation for related research.
The event features 17 competitions across 5 categories—soccer, rescue, @home, industrial, and junior. More than 2,000 competitors participated in the event, representing world-class universities such as Tsinghua University, the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of Tokyo, and Zhejiang University in 45 countries and regions including China, the U.S.A, France, and Japan. Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, ASML, Philips, VDL Groep and many other worldly famous universities and enterprises competed fiercely in the games of the middle size league.
Instructed by Fang Lu and Chen Haowen, two teachers of the HNU Modern Engineering Training Center, the BigHeroX team has six members—Cheng Minhua, Mu Senyuan, Liu Baixing, Shen Xinyang, Ren Yongxiang, and Tan Liuna. They come from the College of Electrical and Information Engineering, College of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, and School of Robotics of HNU, specializing in different professional subjects.
"We are so proud of BigHeroX!" Fang said, adding that "This competition is not only a technical match, but also a showcase of teamwork and innovation spirit. We expect that BigHeroX will make more glorious achievements in future competitions, and our HNU students will shine in various international arenas, making more contributions to the development and innovation of robotics technology in China and around the world".
