The HNU Modern Engineering Training Center’s Robot Workshopharvested record results at theChina Robot Competition 2019 which was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province, between August 29 and 31. It won five first prizes (top 20% of all participating teams), including one first, one second, and two third places.
The competition was hosted by the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA). More than 3,800 members of 1,109 teams from 207 Chinese universities participated. HNU Robot Workshop’s 17 members of 5 teams, led by Ms. Fang Lu and Mr. Chen Haowen, competed in five programs –racing; free combat;biped robot dancing; visual contest; and, gymnastic game, and won five first prizes.
The China Robot Competition is China’s most influentialrobotics contest with the highest technical level, anauthoritative academic and scientific event, and an important event of intelligent manufacturing and high-level talent exchanges.Beginning in 1999, it has been held for 20 sessions. The China Central Television (CCTV) reported this event during the evening news program on August 31.
The Robot Workshop was initiated by Ms. Fang Lu and Mr. Chen Haowen. It concentrates onundergraduate innovative research on robots and smart vehicles, and organizes teams to participate in contests on related disciplines such as electronical engineering, control, electronics, mechanics, materials science, mathematics, information, and software. It has yielded notable achievements, including:
- First prize of the 5thNational Undergraduate Engineering Training Integrated Ability Competition (Hunan and HNU’s best result in such competition);
- First prize of the 2018 NXP Cup National University Students Intelligent Car Race (Hunan’s only team winning the prize);
- First prize (third place) of the 2017 World Robot Contest.
It won 39 national, and 32 ministerial and provincial awards over the past four years.
