Taking metro is one of the most convenient way to commute in Changsha. Changsha has a total of 6 operating metro lines, numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 at present. The public signs are in Chinese and English. Stops are announced in both Chinese and English and there are maps on all the metro trains, with blinking lights showing the upcoming stops.

How to pay: 

You may pay the train fare via the following ways: 

--An APP named "Changsha Metro"(长沙地铁) 

--An App named "Xiangxing Yikatong" (湘行一卡通); 

--Xiaoxiang Card; or, 

 --Single journey ticket. 

The Xiaoxiang Card integrates Changsha bus, metro, and maglev line payment systems. There are two kinds of cards: real-name and non-real-name cards. The non-real-name ones are open to foreigners. Cardholders get a 30% discount when taking a bus and a 10% discount when taking the subway or maglev trains in Changsha. 

Ticket price: The ticket varies according to the distance. The starting fare is two yuan for destinations within 6 kilometers(inclusive). For the distance over six kilometers, it is priced according to the principle of "the unit price decreasing with longer distance". The maximum ticket price for the whole journey is 8 yuan. 

Operating hours: 6:30—23:00.  

Each line varies slightly. Please check the on-site bulletin. Since the time of the first and last trains arriving at each station is different after departure, the specific service time of each station varies slightly. Please refer to the operation schedule of each station for details.
