An academic communication agreement and student exchange memorandum was signed presently between Hunan University and Hokkaido University in Japan.

Hokkaido University is a research-based comprehensive university that places importance on its graduate schools. With 12 undergraduate schools, 18 graduate schools, 3 affiliated research institutes, Hokkaido University ranks first in the number of schools and graduate schools in Japan. It offers courses in medical science, agriculture, engineering, science, economics and business, etc., among which engineering, economics and business and laws are most prominent.

According to the agreement, student exchange program will officially start from 2014. Every year Hunan University will designate 10 students to study at Hokkaido University for half and one year. During this period, the students will be exempted from tuition and, moreover, get assistance from Hokkaido University to apply for the scholarships sponsored by other institutions. Based on assessment result, the students can gain credits from Hunan University after they finish their overseas study.

Besides, teacher exchanges and research cooperation in various fields will be launched accordingly.
