A special concert given by chorus of Hunan University kicked off on the evening of June 30. Hosted by the Communist Youth League Committee of Hunan University, it is the first concert performed by students of the university at the auditorium.
Some influential musicians in music circles were invited to the concert. Tang De, a renowned young music director in China, conducted the concert. Guo Xingguang, a famous coloratura soprano, gave a performance and Jin Huijie, a teacher from Broadcasting Department of College of Journalist & Communication and Film & TV Arts gave a recital at the concert. Sun Xun, a Chinese American, lifetime professor of Department of Music and music director of symphony orchestra in the University of Utah, made instruction to and attended the concert.
The concert was divided into two parts. In the first half, some world-famous songs were staged such as Dance of the Youth, Send a Rose to Me and Anvil Chorus. In the second half, the repertoire of Yellow River Cantata were performed, like Song of the Boatmen on Yellow River, Ode to the Yellow River, Ballad of the Yellow River and Defending the Yellow River.
Founded in March 2009 and as a part of the Communist Youth League Committee of Hunan University and the Art Troupe of Hunan University, the Chorus of Hunan University consisted of over 100 music lovers from thirty colleges in Hunan University. The group enriches students’ life in spare time and becomes a wonderful scene on campus.
