According to the latest ESI database updated by the American Institute of Science and Technology Information on July 1st, Hunan University (HNU) hit the top 1 % of the global ESI list in mathematics for the first time, ranking 215th among the 218 institutions of top 1 % of the list.

HNU has made efforts to accomplish a remarkable enhancement of the subject rankings in top 1 % of global ESI list in recent years. It has hit the top 1% list in six subjects including engineering, chemistry, material science, physics, biology and biochemistry, and mathematics. Compared with the ESI data issued on March 1st^, 2011, HNU has ranked up from 440th to 341th in chemistry, 602nd to 513th in physics, 264th to 215th in engineering, and 339th to 268th in material science. In the meantime, biology and biochemistry of HNU entered top 1 % of ESI list for the first time in November, 2011, ranking up from 760th to 665th.
