The 16th National College Students Advanced Mapping Technology and Product Information Modeling Innovation Competition was held in Chongqing recently. HNU student teams shone in the competitions of four categories – architecture, mechanical, road and bridge, and water conservancy. They harvested one first prize and three second prizes in the team events, and five first prizes, 28 second prizes, and 22 third prizes in the sub-category or individual events. Among them, the architecture team has won first prize of the team event for three consecutive years. The team instructors were teachers from HNU's College of Civil Engineering, College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, School of Architecture and Planning, and the Modern Engineering Training Center.

The "Higher Education Cup" National College Students Advanced Mapping Technology and Product Information Modeling Innovation Competition is jointly sponsored by the former Teaching Guidance Committee for Engineering Graphics Courses in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the Mapping Technical Committee and the Product Information Modeling Professional Committee of the China Graphics Society. It is the highest-level national competitions for graphic design courses, and was included in the national university disciplinary competitions by theChinese Association of Higher Education in 2018.

More than 1,000 teams consisting of over 10,000 students from more than 700 universities nationwide participated in the competition, including Shanghai Jiaotong University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Wuhan University,Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Tongji University. The scale of this competition reached a record high.
