The 3rd International Conference on Xiang Languages Study was held in Hunan University (HNU) during Oct. 16 to 18. It was hosted by HNU and organized by HNU College of Chinese Language and Literature.
The theme of the conference was “Xiang languages comparison and protection”. More than 80 representatives from the USA, Japan, South Korea as well as Hong Kong and Chinese mainland attended the conference.
Prof. Peng Yulan from HNU College of Chinese Language and Literature introduced the previous sessions of the conference. Prof. Liu Zaihua, party secretary of the college, Mai Yun, researcher of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and Prof. Tang Xian, vice chairman of the Language Study Society of Hunan Province addressed the conference respectively.
Experts from the CASS, Peking University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hunan Normal University, Sun Yat-Sen University and Rutgers University as well as Japanese scholars delivered academic reports.
According to the schedule, eight teams work will be arranged in two sub-conference to make expansive discussions, focusing on language study, language contact study, common features of languages, and Chinese language and culture protection.
