The High-level Forum on Frontiers of Translation Technology Studies: Teaching, Practice and Research of Translation Technology in the Era of ChatGPT opened at HNU on June 9, 2023. It was guided by the China International Communications Group (CICG) Academy of Translation and Interpretation, and jointly hosted by the School of Foreign Languages of Hunan University, CICG Intelligent Translation Laboratory, and the Translation Technology Committee of the Translators Association of China. Xie Chi, vice president of HNU, and Xing Yutang, vice president of CICG Academy of Translation and Interpretation, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.
More than 200 teachers, graduate students, and enterprise representatives from over 140 universities, institutions, and enterprises nationwide participated, and more than 5,000 audiences watched via livestreaming. The participants discussed the progress, teaching innovation, and practical use of the cutting-edge translation technologies, in an effort to promote their development and application.
On that morning, Wang Huashu, associate professor from the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation (GSTI) at Beijing Foreign Studies University, gave a lecture on "Language Service Development in the Era of AIGC: Challenges, Opportunities and Trends".
Professor Zhao Gang from the School of Foreign Languages at East China Normal University lectured on "Studies on Implications in English Translation of Chinese Literary Works".
Professor Wang Xiangling from the School of Foreign Languages at Hunan University focused on machine translation and development of ChatGPT.
Zhou Dongli, general manager of Xi’an Dejavu Information Technology Co., Ltd., made a presentation focusing on a multi-dimensional talent cultivation system supported by translation technology.
On the afternoon, professor Zhang Xiaojun from School of Humanities and Social Science at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University delivered a report on "Afterlife of the Big Language Model: 2B or 2C?"
Zhong Wenming, vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Central South University, discussed how patterns of thinking in translation and future work would affect students' perceptions of translation technology.
Cao Daqin, office chief of the Collaboration Innovation Center for the Silk Road Services at Xi'an International Studies University and also associate professor of the School of Translation Studies, shared with the audiences his view on exploring and innovating the school-enterprise cooperation in translation technology-based language services.
Zhu Hua from the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation at Tianjin Foreign Studies University explored what language majors could do to cope with the era of ChatGPT.
Cao Qingqing, general manager of Shanghai Huazhiyi Information Technology Co., Ltd., gave a speech on "Language Technology Helps Cultivate High-level International Communication Personnel".
