The 2023 Hunan-Taiwan Cultural Exchange Season, and also the Cross-Strait Ethnic Minority Cultural Exchange Event, were launched at Yuelu Academy of Hunan University on the morning of June 3. The theme was "seeking the root of Chinese culture and narrating cross-Strait kinship". Various activities would be organized, including worshiping the founder of Chinese moral civilization, ethnic minority cultural exchange, music interaction and exchange, and calligraphy and painting art exchange, to promote compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits to inherit and carry forward fine Chinese culture.
Huang Wentao, vice chairperson of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and director of the Exchange Division of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council; Zeng Zhifu, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Hunan Provincial People's Government; Qin Wancheng, director of the Ethnic Affairs Commission of Hunan Province; Li Shutao, vice president of Hunan University; and, some Taiwan representatives attended the launching ceremony. More than 100 representatives including ethnic people from Taiwan's Taitung County, youth students from both sides of Taiwan Straits, and scholars and experts from cultural and educational circles participated.
The event will last until August. A variety of activities will be held, including Chinese character “和” (harmony) calligraphy competition, cross-Strait exchange on Chinese calligraphy and painting art, cultural root-seeking tours, symposium on fine traditional Chinese culture, summer camp themed "cultural inheritance and innovation", and dialogue between artists on both sides of the Taiwan Straits. The participants started their root-seeking tour from Yuelu Academy and would continue to Yongzhou, which is the hometown of Zhou Dunyi, an outstanding literati and philosopher in the Song Dynasty; worship Emperor Shun, the founder of Chinese moral civilization; visit the ancestral localities of Yao people; and, conduct cultural exchanges between the ethnic minorities on both sides of the Straits.
Some Taiwan students studying in Hunan University, Central South University, Hunan Normal University, and Hunan University of Chinese Medicine had a meeting after the launching ceremony, discussing about their studies and lives in Chinese mainland.
