A “walking robot” seminar was held in the conference room of College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering on May 28, 2011, which was for technological exchanges between Northern Illinois University (NIU) of United States and the college . Prof. Song Xinmin from NIU attended the seminar.
Invited by Liu Xinhui, an outstanding graduate from the college and now studying for his Master degree in NIU, Professor Song and 14 other members of his group came to visit HNU and carried out an academic exchange.
Professor Song, being of Taiwanese descent, is now the dean of department of Mechanical Engineering of NIU. This exchange activity is one of the courses of NIU, aiming to guide the college students to visit and learn the worldwide development of mechanical industry.
The seminar was presided over by Jin Xiangzhong, dean of the College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, HNU. Wang Wenge, secretary of the Party Committee of the college briefly introduced related scientific research achievements of the HNU and the college. Then Professor Song gave a detailed and vivid description about how the “six-legged walking robot” walks and spans obstacles in different environments, and also analyzed the current situation and application of the present “walking robot”. Students actively asked questions and all received satisfied answers. Dozens of NIU students and HNU students of the college had a friendly communication at the end of the seminar.
