The Yuelu Management Forum, as one of the celebrating activities for the centennial of the School of Business and Administration of Hunan University, was launched in the school building on the afternoon of May 6. Professor Ma Chaoqun, winner of National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars and also Lotus Scholars, gave a theme lecture which attracted wide participation of teachers and students as well as social media.

Professor Ma’s lecture entitled “Essence and Development of Finance” shared his original thinking on the essence of finance concerning such questions: Is the essence of finance is to make money beget money? Is finance of value? Which is the main factor in begetting money, money or people? While answering these questions, he thought finance should not be confined in economy field but extended to the field of geographic environment, religion and economic society. Professor Ma also presented the development of finance, inviting a deep thinking on the essence of finance among the participants.

The Yuele Management Forum is presided over by professor Yuan Ling, vice dean of the School of Business and Administration, aiming to establish an academic forum through which participants share information and gain better understanding of the macroscopic view on finance as well as advanced financial operation and practice. This forum has enriched the knowledge of the essence of finance and provoked deeper thinking over finance which laid a solid foundation for further academic exchanges.
