HNU, UCLA Develop Submicrometer Optical Amplifier at Near-Infrared Communication Band

Chinese and American Chinese scientists have recently made significant progress in cooperation and research on a new integrated optical amplifier, developing a submicrometer optical amplifier at near-infrared communication band in the world for the first time. The team of Pan Anlian at the School of Physics and Electronics of Hunan University (HNU) collaborated with the team at Duan Xiangfeng from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) including Associate Professor Zhuang Xiujuan on developing this new micro-and nano-structured optical fiber.

The results of the study have been published in Physical Review Letters, one of the world's most prestigious journals in physics, and reported as a research highlight by Physical Review Focus of the American Physical Society, thus taking scientists one step closer to the invention of photonic chips.
