Hunan University (HNU) held its 2015 Postgraduates Science and Technology Academic Festival on May 12th, themed with “Learn and act with academic spirits; intensify self-discipline for pioneering work”. Yu Ruqin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) and professor of HNU College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, opened the festival with a lecture on graduate student integrity. Chen Wei, deputy party secretary of the CPC HNU Committee, and Chen Shou, vice-president of HNU, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Persons in charge of student affairs in relevant departments and graduate student representatives were also present.

The HNU Student Affairs Department, Graduate School and the HNU Committee of Communist Youth League co-hosted while the HNU Graduate Student Council staffed the event. The Festival aimed to: emphasize academics among graduate students; create a scientific, rigorous, active, and innovative academic atmosphere; and encourage diligent, pragmatic and innovative practices and teamwork spirit of graduates. Another goal is to enhance inter-college communication and enrich graduates’ campus life with similar events.

During this cultural festival, a series of academic and scientific activities will occur: lectures on academic integrity and youth power: election of distinguished papers: doctoral forum: innovation and start-up achievement exhibitions; competitive debate; and a foreign language dubbing contest, logo and mascots collections. The closing ceremony of the festival and a graduation party marked the end of the events
