The 5th International Congress of International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR) was held in Tokyo from August 26th to 30th, 2013. As one of the invited 15 top design institutions, the School of Design of Hunan University took part in the Showcase of design research of this conference.

The design research achievements in terms of product innovation, brand building, design culture and social creativity based on industrial design and digital technology were introduced, which drew great attention from the researchers and designers presented at the event. Doctor Tan Hao from the School of Designing Art of Hunan University made explanation about the issues concerned by the attendees and was well received.

Other colleges and institutions participated in the conference included Carnegie Mellon University in the USA, Delft University in Netherland, Aalto University in Finland, the Open University in the UK, Chiba University in Japan, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University in China.

IASDR is among the three largest international conferences in design research. This is the second appearance of School of Design of Hunan University to present its research output in such top international design research conference, after the presentation of Doctor Zhang Wenquan and Doctor Zhao Danhua in 2009.
