At 8:02am on April 20th, 2013, Sichuan Ya’an Lushan county suffered a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Only 85 kilometers away from Wenchuan, where another violent earthquake occurred in 2008, this terrible disaster is raising nationwide attention five years later.
At 7:00pm on April 21st, many students gathered at the Tianma sports ground. In the dim candle light, students observed a time of silence for the dead and prayed for the earthquake victims. After shouting “We are with you, Ya’an”, students arranged the candles on the basketball court into a heart as a blessing from all the Hunan University students. A representative from from Sichuan stood in the middle of the heart to express gratitude on behalf of Ya’an students. At the end of the event, students raised a banner and wrote their sincere blessings for the Ya’an people on it. Their wish was that their warm blessings would be passed onto the victims in Ya’an, in hopes that the Ya’an people will overcome the difficulties as soon as possible.
This event was organized by the several student organizations, including the Student Union Xiaoxiang Huaishi BBS, News Dissemination Television Art Institute, and College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering.
