Qinling Museum and Hunan University Jointly Establish Education Base

An agreement was signed by Hunan University and Qinling Museum (Emperor Qin Shihuang’s Mausoleum and the Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses Museum) in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province on May 18, the International Museum Day. According to the agreement, the museum is expected to be an education base for patriotism and oral language practice for HNU students. The signing ceremony was held in No.1 exhibition hall of the Terra-Cotta Warriors museum, after which, Mr. Duan Zhichang, secretary of the museum, and Mr. Liu Zhengguang, dean of College of Foreign Language and International Education of HNU unveiled the bases.

Outstanding volunteer representatives from Xi’an’s universities and over 700 teachers and students representatives from local primary and middle schools witnessed the ceremony.

As a world cultural heritage and honored as the 8th World Wonder and one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the world, the Qinling Mausoleum is a key cultural relic unit under protection at state level and a state-level patriotic education base. The magnificent terra-cotta warrior arrays and life-like color-painted bronze chariot and horse are vivid materials for patriotism education, and numerous visitors from home and abroad every year provide students with opportunities for oral practice and communication.

The students of the College of Foreign Language and International Education of Hunan University not only take the museum as a place for language practice , but also get from it an inspiration of the state’s prosperity and a sense of national pride. The agreement makes the combination of local high-quality education resources and talent cultivation in institutions of higher education into practice, and sets pilot approach for talent cultivation.. After the establishment of the base, the museum will facilitate HNU in intensifying students’ patriotism, improving their humanistic literacy and social practice abilities. Further cooperation will be realized with continuous supports by both parties, which will make new contributions to enriching practical teaching resources in the university and to cultivate qualified talents with profound cultural foundation.
