"The 2011 International Year of Chemistry TOTAL University Forum on Environmental Protection”, co-hosted by United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), Total Group of France and South China University of Technology (SCUT) drew to an end in the evening of June 3rd at SCUT. Hunan University’s delegation “Xiangsu” won the gold award for their outstanding performance.

HNU Xiangsu delegation composed of eight undergraduates, among which, Qi Yunqiang, Zhu Lina, Mao Jichuan, Chen Jiaju, Chu Rui and Li Dongyang are seniors from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and She Yu, a senior, Tang Rong, a freshman are from College of Civil Engineering. Their design “Social Model of the Integrated Green and Energy-saving Large Scale Recycle of Waste Plastic Treatment System” got a favorable reception from the judges and guests at the forum. Their creative idea of “being Green” specially struck a string with the French judges. The paintings on waste plastic “Portrait of a Lady” and “Pursuit of Spring” were highly praised by the audience and left a deep impression on judges, guests and competitors from various other universities. In the end, they got a favorable mark ranking third and winning the gold award for national final competition.

The forum awarded 8 gold awards and 11 silver awards which were given to 11 delegations from Zhejiang University, Shandong University etc.

Since the inauguration of the forum on April 1, it has received participations from over 70 delegations from 28 universities including Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, Southeast University, Dalian University of Technology, etc.
