Hunan Yields Great Achievements in Key Technologies of Energy Saving and Emission Reduction

Recently, the demonstration program for the energy saving and emission reduction of heavy metal refining and engineering, a major science and technology program of Hunan Province, has scored remarkable achievements. This program was jointly initiated by Hunan University and Hunan Nonferrous Metals Holding Group Co., Ltd. (HNG).

Technologies developed by this program are estimated to bring in economic returns of 160 million yuan for Hunan Nonferrous Metals Holding Group Co., Ltd. per year. Over 2 billion yuan of direct economic benefits can be created if these technologies are popularized across the whole country. The application of such technologies in Hunan is expected to save at least 600,000 tons of standard coal and reduce the emission of about 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide every year.

With an allocation of 106.3 million yuan, Hunan University Professor Luo Shenglian, winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, takes charge of the program.

Breakthrough has been made by the scientific research group in key technologies for advanced treatment and reuse of smelting wastewater biological agents arisen from high concentrated heavy metals. The newly-developed biological agents, which was designed for advanced treatment, are free from secondary pollution. Upon the application of key technologies, more than 95% waste water can be reused and 99% of medals can be extracted from waste water.
