
A Weifang Yangjiabu Kites and New Year Pictures Art Exhibition was launched by the School of Design on May 9. Over hundreds of kites, New Year pictures and paper-cut works will be on show for one week at the hall of 1st floor of the School of Design. Mr. He Guoqiang, a teacher from the school of Design, gave an inscription to the exhibition for felicitation.
Listed in the national intangible cultural heritages, kites and New Year pictures are outstanding folk arts unique in China. Most of the kites on exhibition are from Weifang of Shandong Province, “Capital of Kites”. Exquisite Weifang kites came out from people’s leisure times just like many other folk arts in China, which present people’s expectation and aspirations and usually are entertaining products closely related to people’s daily life.
The New Year pictures on exhibition are from Yangjiabu, one of the three largest wood-block New Year picture producers. The Yangjiabu wood-block New Year picture is one of the kinds of wonderful works in China’s folk art treasury with a long history. It is famous both at home and abroad for its full-bodied local flavor and distinctive artistic style .
