New students of Grade 2023 came to register on August 26 and 27 as the new semester begins. This year, HNU admitted a total of 5,718 undergraduate freshmen from more than 2,000 high schools in Hunan, Henan, Guangxi and other regions in China, also including 70 from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. A total of 6,239 postgraduate students were enrolled.

HNU arranged counselors, head teachers and student assistants from various colleges and schools to help freshman students scan the registration code, check admission letters and ID cards, complete registration procedures, and distribute "gift packages for freshmen". The registration sites were set up at the dormitory buildings of the new students. Volunteers offered thoughtful and meticulous help, guiding the new students and their parents throughout the whole process of registration. They were available to answer any questions and provide guidance wherever needed.
