MBL Makes Breakthrough in DNA Engineering and Molecular Medicine

The Molecular Science and Biomedicine Laboratory (MBL) research team published a paper “DNA probes for monitoring dynamic and transientmolecular encounters on live cell membranes” on the Nature Nanotechnology Journal, in March 2017. It indicated MBL’s new breakthrough in the area of DNA engineering and molecular medicine, and was highly commented by the corresponding author of the News & Views column.

The paper showed a novel DNA probe that can transdue transient membrane encounter events into readable cumulative fluorescence signals. The probe, which translocates from one anchor site to another, mimicking motor proteins, is realized through a toehold-mediated DNA strand displacement reaction.

MBL was led by Tan Weihong, professor of the State Key Laboratory of Chemo/Biosensing and Chemometrics, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and College of Biology of Hunan University.
