
The Spizzwinks, an a cappella singing group of male students from Yale University, gave a performance at Hunan University on the evening of March 20, 2016.
Several classic songs like “Wake, Freshmen, Wake”, and “Somebody to Love” were performed. Hunan University Student Chorus also gave splendid shows to welcome the guests and extended wishes for the two universities’ cooperation. Later, the two parties exchanged views in vocal skills, distinctive art forms in China and the U.S.A., history, and traditional culture.
At the end of the performance, the Spizzwinks song the Anthem of Hunan University in Chinese, to congratulate on the 1040th anniversary of the founding of Yuelu Academy and the 90th anniversary of the official naming of Hunan University. The Hunan University students presented the Spizzwinks with a calligraphy work of Edward Hicks Hume’s congratulatory address for Hunan University’s officially founding 90 years ago. Hume was the founder of Hsiang-Ya Medical College (today’s Xiangya School of Medicine, CSU) and former president of College of Yale-in-China.
The Yale Spizzwinks is America’s first and oldest underclassman a cappella group. Since its founding in 1914, it has entertained the audience around the world with unique blend of sweet harmony and tongue-in-cheek humor.
The Spizzwinks, at the invitation of the China Education Association for International Exchange, scheduled to stage at Peking University, Hunan University, and Shenzhen University during a ten-day tour, aiming to make American youth better understand the multicultural China, and promote Chinese and American college students’ communication, so as to further consolidate the grass-root foundation for China-America friendship.
