New Silk Road Program initiated by School of Design Hunan University is aimed to promote international cooperation concerning Silk-Road related design research. The topic in 2015 is “Changsha Kiln and Cross Cultural Design”.
Changsha Kiln is a famous Tang Dynasty ceramic kiln. With its characteristic under-glazed polychrome painting technology, poetic decoration, Changsha wares stood out from the competition with the white wares in the north and celadon wares in the south. Changsha Kiln wares with exotic design styles were exported to more than 20 countries through the Maritime Silk Road. Iran was the most important importer of Changsha wares. Thus, this year we have cooperated with Shiraz University and Iran University of Science and Technology in Iran and Indian Institute of Technology in India for Changsha Kiln research, which has yielded some important findings.

Top experts from China, India and Iran are about to meet in Changsha China for series of activities, which last from 4th July to 10th July. These activities include a field trip to Changsha Kiln relics, a seminar concerning Changsha Kiln research, public lectures concerning Silk-Road related design and a cross-cultural design workshop. The seminar will be held from 9:00 am to 11:30 am on 5 July in kejiting, or Department of Science and Technology in Hunan Provincial Government; the public lectures from 3 pm to 5 pm on the same day in Hunan Library. The workshop will last from 6th July to 10th July.
