The Red Dot Award, known as an international “Oscar in Design”, recently announced that three design works by students from Hunan University (HNU) won the prizes. The award-winning works were “LIFE SLIDE” and “PEN MAKER” by Fan Shizhong and “Autoalarm Guardrail” by Chen Yuguo and He Changlin, who obtained the laurel after fierce competition with elites in design from all over the world and a strict review and evaluation by over 20 international authoritative experts. They are invited to attend the prize-awarding ceremony in Singapore in September.
Fan Shizhong, a graduate student in industrial design engineering of the School of Design, once won the Design Concept Award in the Red Dot Design Competition in 2012 with his works “New-Tin Cans”. Chen Yuguo and He Changlin are sophomores studing in the same school in Hunan University.
The Red Dot Award was initiated from Germany. It is one of the most authoritative and large scale international design competitions, regarded among the top three international top-level design awards alongside the German IF Design Award and the American IDEA Design Award and well-known as the “Oscar” of design. The Award consists of three parts, namely Product Design Award, Communication Design Award and Design Concept Award, attracting a lot of participants from colleges and universities, design institutes and enterprises and individuals from nearly 100 countries around the world every year, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Korea's Samsung. With huge international influence, it has become a supreme honor for the enterprises and individuals in the field of product design.
