

The signing ceremony of cooperation agreement on the establishment of the HNU-RIT School of Design, Shenzhen

Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, Hunan University (HNU), and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) signed a cooperation agreement at Shenzhen Citizens' Center on May 4 to jointly set up the HNU-RIT School of Design, Shenzhen that is of international standards and Shenzhen characteristics. Both HNU and RIT have world's top 60 best design schools, while Shenzhen is acclaimed as the "Capital of Design" in China. The three parties, far apart geographically, have come together on "design".
According to the agreement, the HNU-RIT School of Design, Shenzhen is aimed at nurturing innovative design talents that have an international perspective, profound cultural awareness, and advanced technology background. The school offers undergraduate and graduate programs in industrial design, visual communication design, and digital media technology. It plans a total enrollment of 1,500 domestic and international students, which will be managed by Hunan University. Adopting the educational philosophy and management pattern of world's first-class universities, the school will make the best use of RIT's strengths in course resources. The degree courses will be given in English and students will be granted degrees from both universities. One-third of the teaching staff will be selected from HNU, one-third from RIT, and the other one-third recruited from around the world.

Zhao Yueyu, president of HNU, hoped that the design school will propel HNU's exploration of innovative cooperation among universities, local governments, and overseas research organizations in nurturing high-end talents that fit in with the needs of society.
