HNU Graduates Design to Help Huayao People Shake off Poverty

Huayao featured teabag for wild honey suckle flower

At the graduates works exhibition of the School of Design of Hunan University, Liu Xin, a graduate majored in Visual Communication, was displaying the folk customs of Huayao people (a branch of the Yao Minority) at Huxingshan Township of Longhui County, a national-level poverty-stricken county, through an APP.

Huayao Customs and Products APP

The APP, based on the lifestyle of Huayao people, is named “Huayao Customs and Products”. With solar terms as the timeline, and 24 Huayao customs and products including “Tao Liao Ban (market for three days)”, “wedding customs of Huayao people” and “Zhuxue Wanzi (pork blood balls)” as the core, the APP showcases the traditional customs of Yao Minority at Huayao area, their living environment and natural geographic features.

Among the 130 graduates, there are other five students’ works themed on Huayao ethnic culture. A brand identification system for Huayaohua, including the visual design of portal website, entity shops, the design of derivative products packaging and their logos has been developed; some designed environmental-friendly home decorations with Huayao cross-stitch element; some designed Huayao featured teabag for wild honey suckle flower, and some designed a children’s book “The Adventure of Huayao” according to the daily life of Huayao people.
