Hunan University, Finalist for ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest
For the first time Hunan University (HNU) was on the list of the World Finals of 2014 ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) which was released by ACM/ICPC Asia Director C. Jinshong (CJ) Hwang on Jan. 1. HNU delegation performed well in 2013 ACM/ICPC Asia Regional Contests, especially the ACgege Team, which was respectively awarded Fifth and Fourth Prizes in the sub-regional contests in Hangzhou and Changchun. Prof. Xiao Yan Elected as ASCE Fellow
Xiao Yan, professor from the College of Civil Engineering of Hunan University, was elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently. He was recognized for his long-term creative research on structural engineering, especially research and development of modern bamboo structure based on sustainable development concept, as well as his contributions to the Sino-US exchange and higher education in civil engineering. Anti-seismic and Anti-typhoon Bamboo and Wood Building Designed by Hunan University
The “World Wood Day & First International Wood Cultural Festival” was recently held in the China Classical Art Expo City of Xianyou County, Fujian Province. The building designed by the student delegation of Hunan University was accredited as the best wind-resistant design, and won the top prize “Outstanding and Innovative Designing Prize” at the round of wood-made building designing competition. 5000 HNU Grads Extend Gratitude to Alma Mater
Early in the morning of June 24th, 2014 Undergraduate Commencement ceremony was held in the major playground at the HNU South Campus. Over 5,000 graduates attended the event, bowing to the teachers, hugging their classmates, and giving a sign language performance to extend their gratitude to the alma mater. Premier Li Keqiang Visits Hunan University
When visiting an exhibition of start-ups at Hunan University on July 3, Premier Li Keqiang stated, "I remember that your school motto includes daring to be the first". "And to seek truth from facts", said all the students. Premier Li agreed that the 8-character motto is of great importance, saying that starting a business requires courage to be the first, tolerance to defeats, as well as resolution to pick oneself up in a fall and start all over again. HNU New Students Convocation Launched
Convocations for the first-year undergraduate and graduate students of Hunan University was held in HNU on the morning of September 5th. In addition to the students, all the university leaders, chiefs from various departments and offices, and principals of colleges and schools, as well as new student counselors attended the ceremony. World Bank Senior Vice President Kaushik Basu Delivers A Speech in HNU
On September 13th, Kaushik Basu, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank visited Yuelu Academy in the company of HNU Vice President Zhang Qiang, and delivered a keynote speech in the lecture hall of Yuelu Academy Museum. Mr. Basu toured around Yuelu Academy attentively. HNU Publishes Paper in PVLDB Journal
Recently, a research paper titled “Fast Range Query Processing with Strong Privacy Protection for Cloud Computing”, written by Li Rui from College of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering of HNU as the first and primary author, has been accepted by the premier international database forum Very Large Data Bases (VLDB2014) and published in PVLDB Volume 7. This is the first research paper by HNU teacher that has been published in the top international database forum, marking a milestone in HNU’s international image. More >>

Hunan University BITAUTO FSAE Racing Team Takes the Crown
At the awarding ceremony of 2014 Formula Student China (FSC) competition on the evening of Oct. 18, Hunan University (HNU) BITAUTO FSAE racing team won the championship of the fuel group racing for the first time. It is the team’s fifth participation in this race. During the competition, HNU racing team won the grand slam in the dynamic competitions, finishing 75-meter linear acceleration in 4.29 seconds, figure-8 racing in 4.92 seconds, high-speed obstacle avoidance in 58.93 seconds and the shortest single lap time of 1 minute and 24 seconds in endurance racing. HNU Inventors Win China Gold Patent Award
On December 12, the invention patent of “Two-phase Inverter Power Supply System and its Comprehensive Control Methods” (Patent No. ZL201110209751.0) won the China Gold Patent Award at the 16th Ceremony for the WIPO-SIPO Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Invention & Industrial Design in Beijing. This invention was initiated by Prof. Luo An and his team from College of Electrical and Information Engineering of HNU, and it was the first time for HNU to win such honor. More >>
