On the morning of September 24, French Consul-General in Wuhan Mr. Philippe Martinet attended Sino-France International Exchange & the Opening Ceremony of French Classes at Primary School Attached to Hunan University. It marked the institute as the first primary school to have French classes in Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces.
Martinet extended greetings to the teachers and students in Chinese, expressed gratitude to Hunan University for its interest in educational exchange between France and China, and expected more schools to provide French classes to students. At the ceremony, both sides exchanged presents, and the Chinese pupils sang "Two Tigers" in French. Mr. Martinet took group photos with the students with enthusiasm. After the ceremony, he visited the campus and international cultural exhibition.
In order to enable students to further understand French culture and establish atmosphere for French Culture Month, the Primary School conducted a series of activities such as making exhibition boards, blackboard newspaper and hand-copied newspaper. In addition, a festival for appreciating Chinese and French delicacies was staged for students to experience food culture of France.
According to Schoolmaster Yan Caihong, to further enhance characteristic construction of foreign language, the school will establish sister schools with France, and long-term mechanism of exchange for teachers and students, in addition to promote cooperation and exchange with Hunan University.
