Early in the morning of June 24th, 2014 Undergraduate Commencement ceremony was held in the major playground at the HNU South Campus. Over 5,000 graduates attended the event, bowing to the teachers, hugging their classmates, and giving a sign language performance to extend their gratitude to the alma mater. All university authorities, leaders of colleges and schools, leaders of management offices, as well as representatives of parents of graduates, lowerclassmen, and employers presented at the ceremony.

HNU deputy party secretary Chen Wei presided over the ceremony. President Zhao Yueyu addressed his expectation to all the graduates, encouraging them to be men of independent thinking, freedom of spirit and independent personality when they are chasing their goals, to keep the good habit of hardworking and lifelong learning, and to insist on their dreams and endeavor to realize them.

Representative of outstanding graduates pledged to keep the motto of Hunan University in mind and implement it in their future work and life.

All the graduates made a sign language performance of “Grateful Heart” at the event and yelled out their love for the university. The ceremony came to end with the university anthem played.

After the ceremony, graduates flocked to the handprint wall to leave their handprints and signatures, and took photos to mark the occasion. Themed banners of “I love HNU” were seen everywhere around the playground, covering President's Messages and student words, which attracted students and their parents present.

Degree awarding ceremony was inaugurated then at the hall of Yifu Building, and will last for three days. HNU President Zhao Yueyu issues the diplomas to the graduates and turns their tassels at the ceremony, which indicates a farewell to their university life.
