Hunan University has developed a series of brand activities in the forms of social practice and campus cultural events, to advocate gratitude and social responsibility among the students, especially sponsored students.
In 2013, Hunan University launched a volunteer service project among sponsored students. The participating students keenly got involved in voluntary labor in campus, residential communities, enterprises, and poverty-stricken rural areas, fully demonstrating a sense of gratitude and responsibility.
Love Package project raised more than 200 thousand yuan in 3 years which were used to provide thousands of children in poverty-stricken areas with school supplies and daily supplies. In 2011, Hunan University was one of the only two universities in China who swept up all the awards including the National Outstanding Organization Award granted by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation. In addition, since the launching of Loving Dormitory project, nearly 800 dormitories have engaged in the program, covering the whole students’ apartments. More than 3,200 undergraduates and graduate students donated their goods and over 300 volunteers contributed to the project. During the winter and summer vocation, Hunan University organized all sponsored students to take part in public service activities in order to advocate a sense of appreciation and social responsibility.
In the whole year of 2013, Hunan University held 9 gratitude-themed activities and 46 group counseling involving nearly 10 thousand graduates, conducted 10 return visits for outstanding alumni, and organized nearly 500 student delegates to the welfare houses to care for the people in need of a helping hand. The civic-minded volunteers also dedicated themselves in the poverty-stricken counties as Longhui county, Lanshan county, and Yongshun county in Hunan.
