
The 7th National Symposium on Chinese Classics Translation was held in Hunan University from Oct. 27 to 30. Over 140 experts from 115 institutions of higher learning, research institutes and presses throughout China discussed the theme of “developing Chinese classics translation criticism”, exploring ways to improve translation quality, boost Chinese classics translation, and disseminate outstanding Chinese traditional culture overseas.
Prof. Zhu Jianping, deputy dean of the College of Foreign Languages and International Studies at Hunan University presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. Zhang Qiang, vice president of Hunan University, Prof. Yin Feizhou, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Press and Publication, Prof. Pan Wenguo, chairman of the China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese, Prof. Wang Rongpei, chairman of the Research Association for Chinese Classics Translation, and Prof. Liu Zhengguang, dean of the College of Foreign Languages and International Studies at Hunan University addressed the event. Nearly 300 representatives from across the country and postgraduate students of Hunan University joined the group discussions.
This symposium was sponsored by the China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese and the China’s Research Association for Chinese Classics Translation, jointly hosted by the College of Foreign Languages and International Studies of Hunan University and the Academic Forum of Yuelu Academy. Press and publishing houses such as Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Press, Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press and Hunan People’s Publishing House have provided books and academic resources for the symposium, and more than 110 institutions of higher learning including Tshinghua University, Nankai University, Fudan University, Sichuan University and Wuhan University have sent over 160 theses to the symposium.
