The “Huazhu Business Administration Educational Fund” donation and its 1st Awarding Ceremony was launched at the Lecture Hall of School of Business Administration of Hunan University on the morning of May 22nd, 2011. Ma Chaoqun, Dean of School of Business Administration, and Secretary-general of the Education Foundation, accepted the donation and expressed their thanks to Mr. Hu Kang, the contributor of the fund. The Education Fund is divided into A, B, C three parts, which goes to poverty students, excellent students and teachers respectively. The representative of awardees Bi Shaofei gave an acceptance speech.
Mr. Hu Kang is an alumnus enrolled into the School of Business Administration of HNU in 1985. At the centennial ceremony of the school, he set up “Huazhu Business Administration Educational Fund”, providing 100,000 Yuan each year for ten consecutive years to reward outstanding teachers and subsidize students in need. As Mr. Hu Kang mentioned in his speech, Hunan University not only prepared him with knowledge and skills, but also endowed him with imagination and creativity. He hoped Hunan University students be innovative as well as practical.
Huazhu Scholarship was funded in the hope to promote education development, encourage university students to care for others, serve the society and actively devote to public welfares. It includes grant-in-aid, scholarship and grant, which will be distributed to 24 students and 2 teachers.
It is revealed the fund will be under the management of Hunan University Education Foundation (HNUEF) which was established with a primitive fund of 10 million Yuan in December, 2009. Ever since, it has absorbed donations from alumni and social organizations. The collected funds will be used to support teaching and researches, reward excellent teachers, subsidize poverty students and serve public welfare and charity, so as to promote the university’s scientific development.
By this April, HNUEF has carried out 25 awarding projects worth of 4.46 million Yuan including Sun Hung Kai Properties - Kwoks’ Foundation, Huamin Employment Assitance Project (PEAP), Jianfa Estate Scholarship, Lotus Students Scholarship and Baosteel Scholarship, etc. 1,250 poverty students, outstanding students and graduates got financial aid or grant totaling 4.33 million Yuan, and 9 teachers were rewarded with 13,000 Yuan.
According to the head of the Foundation, the establishment of HNUEF is a major decision of the university based on the experience of overseas institutions of higher education and aiming to build a world-famous university oriented to high-level researches. Moreover, it will be an important platform for broadening financing channels and adapting itself to meet the needs of a modern university. The foundation will respect the donors’ will and decision, actively provide both the donors and donees with high-quality services, and fully utilize the funds to realize maximum benefits. Meanwhile, efforts will be made to improve foundation management in raising and using funds, so as to ensure value retaining and increment of the funds.
