The Nature Index published its latest rankings on Sept. 26. HNU ascended in terms of number of published papers, WFC (weighted fractional count), and several international and domestic rankings. The WFC ranks the 21st among Chinese universities.

The rankings are based on data from 1 May 2016 to 30 April 2017. Compared to the period from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017, HNU published three more chemical papers, with 1.03 up in WFC; two physical papers, with 1.93 up in WFC; and, four papers in other research areas, with 2.88 up in WFC. In terms of number of published papers, HNU’s ranking ascended by 20 places among the involved international institutions, and 16 among international academic institutions. In terms of WFC rankings, HNU rose by 19 places among the involved international institutions; 15 among the international academic institutions; and, 1 among Chinese universities.

The Nature Index takes into account all research institutions' papers published on 68 natural science journals, including Nature, Science, and Cell, over the past year. It collects 60,000 high-quality research papers and their author affiliation information, and more than 20,000 research institutions around the world. The 68 journals were selected by two independent groups of worldly prominent scientists, covering chemistry, earth and environmental science, bioscience, and physics.
