On March 27, Margaret Crawford, lifetime professor of the University of California, Berkeley, gave a lecture about everyday urbanism at Hunan University (HNU), at the invitation of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange.
More than 400 teachers and students from HNU, Central South University, and Changsha University of Science & Technology attended.
Prof. Margaret Crawford began her lecture with the introduction of the urban scenes of Los Angeles, and explained some new principles and concepts she noticed and summarized through everyday life. Urban practice experience accumulated by her and her students in recent ten years in America’s Chelsea and China’s Pearl River Delta was also introduced. She encouraged professionals to think about new value of urban design, and make city planning and designing by integrating urban construction experience in China.
After the lecture, Prof. Margaret Crawford discussed teaching problems on urban design with teachers and students, and shared her teaching results and academic papers.
