The opening ceremony and an academic forum of the HNU School of Public Administration was held on May 11, 2019. Bao Jing, Chinese Public Administration Society (CPAS) executive vice-chairwoman, and Deng Wei, HNU Party secretary, announced the establishment of the new school. CPC HNU Committee Vice Secretary Yu Xiangcheng presented the Decision on Establishing HNU School of Public Administration. HNU Vice President Xie Chi presided over the meeting.
Nearly 400 participants included persons-in-charge, experts and scholars from CPAS, and dozens of universities’ public administration colleges, alumni of HNU’s public administration program, and HNU teachers and students.

HNU’s public administration program can be traced back to the Shiwu School in 1897, and was founded as the Politics Department in 1928. In 2000, HNU opened public administration undergraduate program. In 2003 it launched politics and administration undergraduate program, and was authorized to conferpublic administration masters’ degree and MPA degree. The Politics and Public Administration College was set up that year. In 2006, HNU was authorized toconfer master’s degree for its first-level disciplines of public administration, and politics. In 2010, the College of Politics and Public Administration merged with the Law School. In 2012, the HNU Law School started an interdisciplinary doctoral program of regional public administration and clean-governance study. In March 2019, the School of Public Administration was approved.
