A grand ceremony to celebrate the centenary of HNU College of Electrical and Information Engineering (EEIT) was held at the HNU auditorium on October 2, 2021.
HNU President Duan Xianzhong attended and addressed the ceremony.
Other attendees included: Luo An and Wang Yaonan, professors of EEIT and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE); Weng Zuze, president emeritus of the HNU Alumni Association and former HNU president; Zhang Jing, former HNU president; Li Shutao, HNU vice president; and, Sun Wei, standing committee member and director of the Department of Organization of the CPC HNU Committee. Some representatives of alumni also attended.
Shuai Zhikang, dean of EEIT, presided over the ceremony.
The ceremony started with the chorus of the National Anthem.
President Duanexpressed congratulations to all EEIT alumni and faculty and students, and gratitude to people from all walks of life who have been concerning and supporting EEIT and HNU development.
He noted that, over the past century, EEIT has fostered a large number of academic masters and leading personnel in their careers, and achievedfruitful pioneering research outcomes. It is a highland of talent cultivation and academic research in electrical and information engineering, and a backbone for HNU development. The alumni have made remarkable contributions to our country in various fields, and won honors for HNU. In the coming five years, HNU will, in line with the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s importantspeeches made during his inspection tour at the university, accelerate constructing a world-class university with historical and cultural inheritance and Chinese characteristics; engage in cultivating leading personnel to serve the country in the new era; elevate someimportant indicators to world top 200; and, maintain its stable place in thecore rankings ofdomestic universities. He expected the college, from a new starting point, will hold its education orientation, foster virtue through education, cultivate first-class talents and disciplines and produce first-class outcomes, so as to build it into an important sci-tech force in China’s electrical and information engineering sectors, and make greater contributions to HNU and China.
Wen Zuze, on behalf of the alumni, congratulated EEIT on its centenary. This year also marks the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC). EEIT witnessed the rise of CPC andChinese nationality, and from the academic perspective, and demonstrated that China’s education and science development shares a common fate with the future of our country and nationality. He wished greater progresses of the college, and vigorous and more glorious development in next 100 years.
Luo An delivered a speech as a faculty representative. “We havelived up to theexpectations for the past century, and will start off for a new centennial journey!” he said.

Huang Shoudao, secretary of the CPC EEIT Committee, introduced the college’s centennial history and development plan.
Shuai Zhikang presented letters and videos of congratulation from other universities, partner organizations, and alumni.
Some donators of the EEIT New Centenary Development Fund were granted with certificates of donation at the ceremony. Thefund will provide scholarships and subsidiaries for outstanding students and poorer students.

On that evening, a spectacular 600-drone show was staged at the sports ground to celebrate the centenary of EEIT.
