On June 26, the sixth World HWSC (HVAC World Student Competition) was held in Tampa, Florida, USA. Pan Jingjing, the champion of the 5th TICA HAVC China Student Competition and a postgraduate student of grade 2020 from HUN represented China in the competition. She won the second place for her high-quality paper and poster presentation, as well as her excellent speech, answer, and interaction skills.
Pan Jingjing participated in the competition with her master's thesis "Research on Human Thermal Response and Comfort Zone under Solar Radiation Based on Physiological Parameters". Her supervisor is ProfessorLi Nianping from the HNU College of Civil Engineering.
By studying the physiological and psychological changes of people under the solar radiation in summer, Pan proposed a method to calculate the skin temperature in direct sunshine based on that in indirect sunshine. She verified the applicability of the standard effective temperature (SET) under solar radiation, and used the SET index to conduct fitting computation of the thermal acceptability of human body. The research results are conducive to improving the application of physiological parameter and thermal comfort index in the solar radiation environment, and provide suggestions for elevating the thermal comfort and energy-saving performance of buildings in the summer solar radiation environment.
Initiated by the Federation of European Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Associations (REHVA) in 2016, the HVAC World Student Competition (HWSC) was jointly organized by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the China Innovation Alliance for Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning (CAHVAC), the Society of Heating, Air-conditioning & Sanitary Engineers of Japan (SHASE), the Society of Air-conditioning & Refrigerating Engineers of Korea (SAREK), the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE), and some other international organizations. It aims to provide outstanding HVAC students with the opportunity to compete on an international academic stage, to demonstrate their talents, and enhance their academic ability and professional competence.
