An anti-seismic and anti-typhoon building made of bamboo and wood was designed by students from Hunan University.
The “World Wood Day & First International Wood Cultural Festival” was recently held in the China Classical Art Expo City of Xianyou County, Fujian Province. The building designed by the student delegation of Hunan University was accredited as the best wind-resistant design, and won the top prize “Outstanding and Innovative Designing Prize” at the round of wood-made building designing competition.
There are three student members in the modern bamboo and wood structural designing team of Hunan University. They are Feng Li, Zhou Jin and Cheng Ming, who are instructed by Shan Bo, associate professor from the university’s College of Civil Engineering. Principal of the team introduced the building is not constructed by concrete and cement, but by low-carbon and green materials such as glued bamboo and wood. With an ecological idea, the design is simple yet accurate in its structural calculation, which makes it resistant to earthquakes and typhoon. The building demonstrates the concept of energy-saving and resource conserving in all aspects.
