The Lecture Room of Yuelu Academy welcomed its first lecturers on the morning of April 16. Xu Jialu, head of the Chinese Language Culture College of Beijing Normal University and Liu Changle, chairman and chief executive officer of Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited gave lectures on "Rise of Leading Powers and Cultural Renaissance".
Mr. Xu expounded on the relationship between economy, culture and prosperity and stressed that culture and faith must be revived as they are the vital driving forces behind sustainable economic development. Mr. Liu delivered a speech titled "China Embraces a New Cultural Era" which began with the story of Mo Yan, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2012, and then recalled the glory and boom of Chinese history and culture, and finally presented an analysis of the six characteristics of new culture.
The lecture room is a joint initiative of the Hunan Federation of Social Sciences, Hunan Broadcasting System and Hunan University. It is expected to play an influential role in promoting high culture from Hunan to the rest of the country and even the whole world to enhance Hunan's image as the country's leading cultural power.
