HNU Students Carried Out 2015 Summer Social Activities

Recently, over 80 teams of college students of Hunan University (HNU) started for the summer social activities in Hunan, Anhui, Liaoning, Fujian, Henan, Chongqing, and Guizhou , where they will bring culture/science and technology/hygienic health to the countryside.

The summer social activity for college students is under unified coordination and arrangement of the League Committee of HNU according to the Provincial League Committee’s requirements, involving 60 key teams from various colleges and 17 teams for special projects. Compared with last year, the number of the participating teams and professional instructors increased and the scope is wider this year.

15 volunteer teams including that from College of Electrical and Information Engineering have been involved in the China Education Support Project initiated by the Chinese Communist Youth League Central Committee. The investigation team from School of Journalism and Communication & Film and Television Art carried out “study on the status quo of the ecological environment in the coastal cities in Liaoning Province”, which was approved by the Communist Youth League Central Committee as a special Chinese college student summer social program oriented to Liaoning. A doctoral service team from College of Environmental Science and Engineering is involved in the Chinese Communist Youth League Committee of Hunan Province’s project of encouraging doctoral students to support start-ups and innovations in western Hunan, and will conduct a survey towards the ecosystem of Lishui River watershed in Sangzhi County, Zhangjiajie.

Moreover, in commemoration of the 70th anniversary for the victory of Anti-Japanese War, 16 teams from College of Electrical and Information Engineering and School of Economy and Trade will go to the battlefield sites of the Anti-Japanese War, old revolutionary base areas and hometowns of some revolutionary martyrs, such as Chenxi County, Liling County and Guangzhou City to visit veterans and witnesses of the war to know more about local cultural industry and revolutionary traditions. A research team from College of Marxism Studies carried out their social activities in western Hunan’s Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, focusing on the the ethnic minority issues and policies under new situations

In addition, the summer program this year still pays much attention to assisting grass-roots education, bringing science and technology and hygienic health to the countryside, and caring for and protecting left-behind children. Volunteers from College of Chinese Language and Literature went to teach Chinese classics and traditional culture at Xujiafang Central Primary School in Cili County, Zhangjiajie. A team from Law School went to Hunan’s Huayuan and Xiushan in Chongqing for the purpose of popularizing law knowledge and caring empty-nests. An investigation team from College of Civil Engineering conducted a field survey for the environment monitoring and species conservation in the East Dongting Lake State Reserve in Junshan District, Yueyang city. A team from College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering visited Dongcheng Middle School in Wangcheng County to investigate the development and existing problems of rural education and established a “Social Activity Base for College Students” there. Volunteers from College of Electrical and Information Engineering organized colorful activities with the left-behind children in Kesha Township, Yongshun County. Volunteers from College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering went to Shuangqing Primary School and carried out educational and caring activities in an aim to enhance core value education and spread positive energy of youth. Teams from College of Finance and Statistics went into Baishuidong Village in Longhui County, Shaoyang City, focusing on the research on the precise mechanism for poverty alleviation.
