An opening ceremony for the First “Shen Kuo Program” of University of Regina (U of R) and International Academic Forum of Hunan University (HNU) was held on May 18. U of R Vice President David Malloy and HNU Vice President Cao Yijia presented at the ceremony and delivered speeches.

A University of Regina delegation visited Yuelu Academy and communicated with the postgraduate representatives of HNU. During their stay, a thesis presentation was organized. What is more, the Confucius Institute at U of R sent 11 students to HNU for a one-month Chinese language training and cultural experience.
The “Shen Kuo Program” at U of R is named after Shen Kuo (1031-1095), a Chinese polymath scientist of the Northern Song Dynasty. Establishing the Shen Kuo Scholarship, it aims to further deepen its exchanges and cooperation with Chinese universities and scientific research institutions by means of expanding personnel exchanges and project cooperation, and constantly explore interschool exchange modes.
HNU and U of R started collaboration in 1998. Since then, the two universities carried out student and teacher exchange in various forms. In September 2009, the International Center of Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage (ICCS) was co-established in HNU. In 2010, the two parties jointly set up the Confucius Institute at U of R.
