

On the afternoon of May 17, a delegation of University of Regina led by President Vianne Timmons visited Hunan University, to discuss about expanding the cooperation between the two universities. HNU President Zhao Yueyu met the delegation and signed 4 new cooperation agreements including the Agreement on Joint Graduate Programs between Hunan University and University of Regina. According to the agreements, cooperation will cover undergraduate programs as well as graduate programs, expand from student and teacher exchange to education and research programs.
Since the cooperation and exchange relationship was officially established in 1998, Hunan University and University of Regina reaped remarkable results in teacher and student exchange, as well as collaboration in education programs and research. In 1999, the two universities officially launched the “2+2” joint cultivation program, which has fostered 600 students so far; and in 2001, the “ Hunan Scholar” program was started under which more than 20 teachers from Hunan University went to University of Regina as visiting scholars to further their studies. The two universities jointly established the cooperative education and research centers including “Sino-Canada ESL Center”, “Cooperative Research Center of Chinese Social Philosophy”, “Chinese Environmental Protection Research Center”, “ Sino-Canada Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage Center”, and “Sino-Canada Petroleum Research Center”, and based on the above carried out fruitful projects. Besides, the two universities jointly established Confucius Institute at University of Regina, providing a new platform for bilateral cooperation and developing the cooperation from university level to national level.
