Hunan University (HNU) held the eighth International Symposium on Bioanalysis, Biomedical Engineering and Nanotechnology in Changsha between May 25 and 27. More than 300 experts and scholars from US, Canada, France, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and China attended and discussed about the latest progress in nanotechnology and nanomedicine; molecular science and function materials; bioanalysis and biotechnology; and, chemicobiology and biomedical engineering. Tan Weihong, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and vice president of HUN chaired the opening ceremony.

The symposium aimed to promote research interaction and academic exchanges among scientists in related fields. Various forms such as reports, invited lectures, oral presentations and posters, and open discussions were arranged to promote communications between international and domestic experts, deepen academic cooperation, and boost the sci-tech innovation and academic progress.

Invited lectures were given by more than 30 internationally renowned scholars including the former chairman of the National Research Council of USA, Richard Zare, member of the National Academy of Sciences and professor of Stanford University; and more than 20 CAS academicians, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and academicians of the World Academy of Sciences; and, more than 40 well-known domestic young scholars.

The biennial symposium has been held at Hunan University for eight sessions. It has become the most influential international academic conference in the field of biomedicine.
