On December 23, HNU Student Symphony Orchestra staged a New Year concert at the Hunan Concert Hall. The theme was “My Motherland and I”. Leaders present at the concert included Cao Shengyuan, deputy secretary of the CPC HNU Committee and secretary of its Discipline Inspection Commission; Yu Xiangcheng, deputy secretary of the CPC HNU Committee; and, Tang Zhenming, standing committee member and publicity director of the CPC HNU Committee.
The concert raised its curtain with a jubilant “Spring Festival Overture”. A group of Chinese and foreign classic music were performed, such as “Yellow River Piano Concerto”, “Ode to Red Flag”, “Hungarian Dances”, “Jasmines”, and “Blue Danube”. It concluded with a Chinese song “My Motherland”.
The concert was conducted by Wu Bo, a young conductor living in the United States, and also art director and standing conductor of the HNU Student Symphony Orchestra. The concertmaster was Li Guo, professor of the Wuhan Conservatory of Music and former director of its Orchestral Department, and former vice president, concertmaster, and violinist of the Oriental Symphonic Orchestra. Liu Yuge, a college student of the College of Finance and Statistics, gave a piano solo. The performers were students in 29 specialties from HNU’s 16 colleges and schools.
